Study formats

What each format is actually for.

Six ways to work with the same upload. Which one helps depends on whether you are trying to understand something, remember it, or check that you can still do it under time.

Study notes
StudiSpace reads the file you uploaded and writes the notes from that material alone, not from the open web. The structure follows your source, so a chapter stays a chapter and a lecture stays a lecture, and every line stays editable afterwards.
Flashcards
Question-and-answer cards drawn from the definitions, dates, formulas and distinctions already in your material. They are built for active recall: you answer first and check second, which is the part that makes something available to you in an exam.
Quizzes and written practice
Multiple choice for quick checking, fill-in-the-blank for terminology you have to get exactly right, and written questions for the parts an exam expects you to explain in full sentences rather than recognise from a list.
Mind maps
A branching view of how the ideas in your upload connect to each other. Useful when a topic has too many moving parts to hold in order, or when the relationship between ideas is the thing being tested.
Audio summaries
A spoken version of your material, three to five minutes long, for walking, commuting, or any time you are away from a screen. It is written to be listened to once, not to read your notes back to you word for word.
AI tutor
Ask questions about the material you uploaded and get answers grounded in it. Because it can see what you are studying, "explain step three" means the step three in your notes, not a general explanation of the topic.
Getting more out of it

Small things that make the output better.

Most of what separates a study set worth using from one you abandon is decided before you press generate. None of this is specific to StudiSpace — it is just how the material behaves.

Upload the source, not your summary
A summary of a summary loses the examples, and the examples are usually what makes an idea stick. Give StudiSpace the lecture slides or the chapter itself and let it do the compressing — you can always shorten the notes afterwards.
One topic at a time
A whole semester in a single upload produces notes that are broad and shallow, because there is only so much room before everything becomes a heading. A chapter or two gives you flashcards specific enough to actually be worth answering.
Read the notes before the source
Take the generated notes first, then open the original reading. Knowing roughly where a text is going makes a difficult one far easier to get through, and you will notice what the notes left out — which is often the part worth slowing down on.
Fix what is wrong as you read
Everything is editable, and correcting an error is itself a good way to learn the material. If your professor defines a term differently from the way it comes out, change it — your set should agree with the course you are being examined on.
Use more than one format on the same material
Notes tell you what a topic contains; flashcards tell you whether you can retrieve it; written questions tell you whether you can explain it. Those are three different abilities, and an exam usually wants the last one.
Ask the tutor about the parts you skimmed
The sections you read quickly are the ones most likely to appear on the exam looking unfamiliar. Because the tutor works from your upload, you can point at a specific paragraph and ask what it is really saying.
Exam plans

How a study plan gets built.

Exam mode is the part of StudiSpace that decides what to do on which day, so that the week before a test is a sequence rather than a pile.

You start with the date
Exam mode asks when the exam is, what subject it covers, how long you can study each day, and how confident you feel. The plan is built from those answers rather than from a fixed template dropped on top of your material.
Each day has one job
A plan runs up to a week and gives each day a single mission with its own formats. Study days do not all look alike: the day for building a foundation uses notes and a mind map, the day for recall uses flashcards and quick questions.
It ends on review, not on new material
Every plan longer than a day finishes on a final review pass — mistakes, high-yield points, key ideas — instead of introducing something new the night before, which is the version of studying that costs you sleep and gains you nothing.
Your confidence changes the shape
Saying you need guidance and saying you are nearly ready produce different plans, because those two people need opposite things. One gets more scaffolding before being tested; the other sits a mock early so the remaining days can go on what it exposes.
Your level changes the writing
Whether you are in high school or at university is passed through to everything generated for the plan — what gets defined, what gets assumed, and how technical an explanation is allowed to be.
The plan and the material live together
The missions are not a separate checklist to keep in sync. Each day opens the study set built from your own upload, so following the plan and studying your material are the same action.

Your questions, answered

What file types can StudiSpace read?

PDFs, Word documents, images such as PNG and JPG, plain text you paste in, and links to articles or videos. Photographed pages are handled as images.

Can I create more than one format from a single upload?

Yes. One upload can become notes, flashcards, quizzes, written practice, a mind map and an audio summary, and you can add another format to a study set later without uploading the file again.

How long are the audio summaries?

Between three and five minutes. They are written as something to listen to on the way somewhere, not as a full reading of your notes.

Does the AI tutor answer from my material or from general knowledge?

From your material. It answers based on the file you uploaded, which is why its explanations line up with what your class is actually teaching rather than with a different textbook.

Can I change what StudiSpace generates?

Yes. Every format is editable, and your edits are saved with the study set, so you can correct a card, rewrite a note or reorder a section and keep it that way.

Do I need to create an account to start?

No. You can upload your material and generate study content immediately without registering. You'll only need an account if you want to save your progress.

What types of files can I upload?

We accept PDFs, Word documents, images (PNG, JPG), text files, and you can also paste content directly or share links to videos and articles.

How does the AI Tutor work?

The AI Tutor analyzes your study material and can answer specific questions about that content. They're not generic answers, but based on what you've uploaded.

Are the generated materials editable?

Yes, completely. Everything the AI generates is just a starting point. You can edit, add or reorganize any content as you prefer.

How long does it take to generate the content?

Normally between 10-30 seconds depending on the size of the material and the number of formats you select.
